Split is a little short of heaven for outdoors

It goes without saying that Split is a little short of heaven for city slickers who love architecture, culture, gastronomy, and nightlife. But what about those addicted to the great outdoors? In fact, we can honestly say Split is a simply fantastic destination for those who love getting out in the open air, engaging in some physical activity, and appreciating the charms of the Dalmatian coast and inland, thanks to a combination of its natural geography and Mediterranean mild climate.

The beaches of Split

A surprising number of open-air activities can be found within the city itself and its surrounding area. Take for example the mountains of Mosor and Biokovo with their cliffs on the coast close to amazing beaches. There you can go hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, jeep safari with excellent views over the middle Dalmatian islands. Then at the back of the city is the Cetina river nature reserve, with its valleys and canyon where you can go rafting, canoe, canyoning, and extreme canyoning with excellent views of surrounding mountains. Of course, we don’t need to remind you that Split rests snugly on the Adriatic coast in the vicinity of the most beautiful Dalmatian islands.

The beaches of Split are a major attraction for sun worshippers, and although they can be a bit too crowded for some, in particular Bačvice beach, you don’t have to travel far to find more peaceful places – and much cleaner waters. More active leisure seekers might prefer participating in sea-kayaking, snorkeling, or stand up paddling. You will find plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with an Adriatic breeze.
